About

Point/Counterpoint about seeking or not seeking therapy.

Manuel: “I don’t believe in therapy, it’s a sign of weakness.”
The willingness to change and asking for help is not a sign of weakness but a sign of being courageous and showing concern for others. Therapy can help improve one’s happiness and help with a situation that may have long-term effects if left unresolved.

Cindy: “What’s wrong with me, why can’t I fix this?”
The reality is that you’ve probably tried many things, such as talking with friends, Google searches, etc., yet it feels like nothing has changed. It’s easier to help others fix their problems than to take care of your own.

Ricky: “I feel therapy is too expensive.”
How much is true happiness worth? We invest in so many things, yet we fail to invest in ourselves. Dedicating yourself to counseling can help you resolve your issues promptly. Taking care of an issue as early as possible can help prevent significant financial damages that may be extremely difficult to fix in the future. You are worth it!

Hi, I’m Raoul.

My experience growing up in rural west Texas showed me that happiness can be achieved anywhere. I had the honor of serving in the Air Force for 22 years, which gave me a wonderful opportunity to live and travel worldwide. As a result of that experience, I understand the struggles of being deployed and have experienced firsthand the difficulties upon returning. As a Certified Clinical Trauma Professional, I have training in EMDR for PTSD.

My Bachelor’s degree is in Psychology from Park University. While stationed in Germany, I received my master’s in Counseling Psychology from the University of Maryland, Bowie State (European Division).

Upon retiring from the Air Force, I became a licensed educator and taught elementary for eight years, but the desire to do counseling was strong. After working in different settings and gaining valuable experience, I felt it was time to create the perfect office with individuals who had the same desire and dedication to clients.

We opened R&B Counseling with one focus in mind – CLIENTS first! Everybody on the team has been handpicked because of their work ethic and commitment to others.

On a personal note, I love watching sports (go Cowboys), cooking/grilling, and playing as much golf as possible. I have an amazing wife who has been instrumental in our plan and allows me to live my dream every day! My children and grandkids remind me of how truly blessed I am.

Hi, I’m Bernadette Loftis.

For 21 years, I served in the field of social services, working to assist individuals whose lives have been impacted by the devastation of mental illness, dual diagnosis, homelessness, or other barriers that placed them at an impasse in life.

My desire to live my life in service to God and his people led me to obtain my Master’s degree in Counseling Psychology. This has allowed me to serve those in need through psychotherapy, regardless of race, creed, gender, or preference, from ages 4 to 95.

By utilizing TF-CBT and EMDR, I work with people affected by sexual trauma and depression. For five years, I have been licensed through the Texas State Board of Examiners of Professional Counselors.

I am humbled that clients allow me to journey with them on their road to recovery, and I firmly believe in the words of H.J. Brown: “Never give up on anyone because miracles happen every day.”
